How I work with clients
Hi, my name is Nicole and I am an accredited counsellor with a qualification in working with Attachment Based Psychotherapy, offering face to face sessions In Kings Hill, West Malling and online session to clients all over the UK.
I work with clients over the age of 18 and have worked with a wide range of clients, including grief work, domestic abuse, childhood trauma, anger issues, interpersonal relationship difficulties and attachment therapy.
Along with Person Centred Counselling, I also offer Attachment Based Psychotherapy, this is a form of therapy that works with our attachment triggers, these attachment defences are often developed from childhood and I work in a way that helps you recognise how your past could be influencing your current life, be that with work or relationships, and how your Inner Working Model (early life experiences that shape our self-image and beliefs) could be triggering your defences and impacting your life.
Attachment focused therapy for adults is beneficial by helping clients overcome their negative self image and learn a healthier way to deal with their relationships with themselves and others, by working with your attachment focused therapist to help you develop a secure attachment style, attachment therapy works in a way that we look at your past childhood experiences together in therapy to help you understand how attachment relationships have impacted your past and present life. Clients who want to work on their attachment style will start to notice how their behaviours when triggered can fall into a particular attachment style, once we have worked through this and you have an understanding about why you are reacting and feeling triggered, we are then able to work towards changing your attachment triggers and work together towards you feeling more secure in yourself and your attachment relationships. Attachment theory therapy has helped numerous clients to really focus on their behaviours and give them a greater understanding of who they are, relieving the pressure to be perfect, with an attachment lens in therapy we aim to give you a greater empathy for yourself by really understanding how behaviours can be learnt and used in the past to survive.
It could be that being in a relationship triggers an intense fear of abandonment, or it could be the opposite, being in a relationship feels too difficult because the thought of relying on someone feels alien to you so you detach from people easily, Attachment focused therapy looks at these responses and we work through how and why they have developed, with knowledge comes the power to be able to change these behaviours if they are impacting you negatively.
To start with I always think it’s best that we ascertain if I am the right counsellor for you, taking the step to reach our for support is something that you should be proud of, but it needs to be with the right person, I know how important having the right counsellor for you is – with that it mind, I offer a free 30 minute telephone call so we can talk through how you would like to work and if the way I work is the right fit for you. I offer a confidential, open and honest space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.
I am a qualified counsellor and an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred), which means I have met the BACP’s high standards of knowledge, experience, and development within the field of counselling and psychotherapy.
